ABOUT ME
Hi! I'm Catalina
Quilting is my passion, and I’m excited to bring a fresh perspective to the quilting world with tools and designs that make creativity effortless and fun.
Growing up surrounded by sewing machines, fabrics, and the creativity of my grandmother, a lifelong dressmaker, I always had a love for crafting. Despite initially following a different path, studying Economics, working in public administration, and teaching music, the drive to create stayed with me. After having my two children, I returned to sewing, which led me to quilting and, eventually, to founding my first creative venture, Amarar Creacions.
Quilting quickly became my true passion. Experimenting with Foundation Paper Piecing and curve techniques, I started designing my own quilt patterns, blending traditional methods with a fresh approach. When I couldn’t find an easy way to visualize colors for my patterns, I took matters into my own hands and developed QuiltInk, a web app that now serves as a source of inspiration for quilters around the world. QuiltInk became a space where quilters can bring their projects to life through color, sharing their unique visions with the quilting community.
After years dedicated to QuiltInk, I felt it was time to return to my quilt pattern design roots with a new focus. Now, under my rebranded name, Quiltilus Studio, I’m working to introduce modern, practical tools to the quilting world. My first creation, the Neo ruler, is designed to help quilters explore the beauty of curves with ease. This tool and my designs reflect my aim to bring a contemporary perspective to quilting while helping makers achieve beautiful, precise results.
The Quiltilus Name
As a sci-fi lover and someone who has always viewed quilting as an adventure, I imagined a ship, like the legendary Nautilus, to help me navigate the endless waters of creativity. Living by the Mediterranean Sea has infused my life with a love for the blue waves and inspired the name Quiltilus. I spent my childhood swimming in these waters, and even named my daughter Mar, meaning “sea.” Now, through Quiltilus Studio, I bring this spirit of exploration and my love for the sea into every project, inviting fellow quilters to embark on a creative journey together.
